The quilt
“I saw a quilt online with a diamond pattern I loved — and refused, on principle, to pay $10 for the pattern. So I made my own from the photo. Turns out the original used 30-degree parallelograms, not 45. I just made up my own pattern instead.”
The desk
“This desk was the very first piece of furniture I bought when I went to university. It's been assembled and disassembled countless times over the 40-plus years I've had it — I still have the spare screw that came with it.”
The fairy
“The stained-glass fairy was made for Phoebe by my mother. Before she got into chucking heavy objects, Phoebe loved pink, sparkly things — fairies were the perfect match for her imagination.”

“When I started sewing quilts, I asked around about sewing circles. The answer was always ‘you can't sew circles.’ That was all I needed to prove everyone wrong.”
The vanity
“When I bought the cherry wood for the kitchen, I guessed at how much I'd need. I wildly overestimated — and ended up with enough left over for all the bathrooms too.”
The renovation
“When I updated this room, extending the countertop over the toilet was stylish. It turned out to be a big problem the day the toilet needed replacing.”
Named for Adrian

“I had an epiphany in the middle of the night that a grand piano is roughly the same size as a queen bed. When I told my son I was making a piano quilt for ‘his bed’… let the music of nature lull you to sleep.”
The view
“When I first started the B&B, people would walk into this room and comment on the spectacular view. In all my years living here, it had never once occurred to me that the view from the downstairs rooms was noteworthy. Nothing like fresh eyes to draw attention to things overlooked.”
